PatientFlow Case Study
Why Redesign PatientFlow?
PatientFlow needed a fresh design to update its interface and enhance usability for healthcare professionals. Through conversations with users, it became clear that doctors were struggling with the outdated interface, which often slowed down their workflows and impacted efficiency.

One key insight came from a client who mentioned, “A client recently asked me if there were any releases coming for PatientFlow.” This emphasized the demand for improvement and a more modern, practical, and intuitive experience.
Exploration
To start, I gathered feedback from existing users, primarily doctors and healthcare staff. The goal was to understand pain points and identify areas where the interface could better support their daily tasks.

Initial sketches helped map out potential solutions, focusing on quick access to critical information and a streamlined workflow.

“Doctors want the information they need as quickly as possible.”
Concept
My design aimed to create an interface that minimized unnecessary inputs and steps, making it easier for doctors to complete tasks efficiently.
Create a Simpler Workflow
The new design introduced a consistent navigation bar across all screens, reducing confusion and improving task flow. I focused on delivering a clean, modern aesthetic while maintaining familiarity to ease the transition for existing users.

“My goal was to create an interface that eliminated excessive inputs to perform an action.”
Navigation
Navigation improvements were a priority. By keeping the navigation bar present on every screen, I ensured users could move through the app quickly and intuitively.

“The navigation bar is present on every screen.”
Prescription Workflow
A redesigned prescription workflow allowed doctors to enter and review prescriptions more smoothly. The new layout retained familiar elements while enhancing clarity and reducing the number of steps needed to complete tasks.

“The patient’s chart works similar to how it already does in PatientFlow.”
What Did I Learn?
Redesigning PatientFlow reinforced the importance of listening to user feedback. I learned how vital it is to balance innovation with familiarity, especially in environments where efficiency directly impacts care quality.

The project highlighted the need for consistent design patterns and the value of maintaining an approachable, professional aesthetic when designing for healthcare professionals.
